Silicon Ingots & Bricks
Solar Power Industries uses Directional Solidification System DSS furnaces to cast silicon feedstock into usable silicon ingots. High purity polysilicon makes up the primary feedstock. Once processed and cast, SPI cuts the ingots into bricks, which are subsequently sliced into the thin silicon wafers necessary for the construction of cells.
Solar cell processing operations need either silicon ingots or wafers as raw material, depending upon the operation’s initial manufacturing requirements. SPI uses the ingots they produce in their own solar cell manufacturing, and makes the additional wafers available as a high quality building block for other solar cell operations.
SPI works with its customers to tailor custom made ingots.
